Marking the official start of the cool season, November is an excellent time to visit Thailand. While there are regional weather variations, many parts of Thailand enjoy pleasant temperatures, abundant sunshine, and low humidity during November. This month also features the enchanting Loy Krathong Festival, one of Thailand’s most photogenic events.
November weather
For most parts of Thailand, November offers warm, sunny days and comfortable evenings. However, the lower Gulf Coast, including destinations like Ko Samui, can experience isolated storms and tropical downpours.
Where to visit in November
Whether you prefer a beach holiday, countryside retreat, or exploring historic sites, November is ideal for a trip to Thailand. The cool season enhances the enjoyment of sightseeing in Bangkok and is perfect for day trips or weekend excursions from the Thai capital to historical sites like Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi.
Beach enthusiasts should head to the Andaman Coast or the East Coast for the best weather. The Andaman Coast, including Krabi, Khao Lak and Phuket, enjoys excellent weather in November. The islands in the Andaman Sea also offer great conditions with fewer tourists compared to the peak season from December to February.
Thailand’s east coast is another prime spot for a November beach holiday. Ko Chang and other islands in the archipelago enjoy near-perfect conditions. From the bustling beach resort of Pattaya to the quieter coastlines of Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, November offers great weather for exploring this region.
In the north and north-east of Thailand, November is ideal for countryside excursions. The summer heat has dissipated, and the rains have retreated, leaving behind lush landscapes in locations like Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Mae Hong Son.
As you can see in the weather infographic above, Ko Samui experiences higher-than-average rainfall due to the northeast monsoon. While Ko Samui and the Gulf Coast islands also experience plenty of good weather in November, this is something to consider because there is a higher chance of seeing isolated tropical showers in this region in November.
Events and festivals in November
November features Loy Krathong, one of Thailand’s most beautiful festivals. Celebrated nationwide, the festival involves releasing small illuminated floats, known as ‘krathongs,’ onto waterways. In Chiang Mai and other northern areas, the Yi Peng Lantern Festival is celebrated alongside Loy Krathong, adding to the spectacle.
